Because You Give

Projects

Supporting a project is a tangible way to support a community. Below are some of the specific projects we are focusing on right now. You will notice how different they all are, and that's because we tailor our projects to the specific needs of each community where we work.

Does one of these projects grab your heart?

Women in Romania are often treated like second class citizens. The society is male dominated, and women can easily feel isolated, discouraged, and voiceless. The Ark Ministry nurtures women through faith-based activities like support groups, mentoring, professional counseling, and special events.

Ark activities provide a place for women to belong, where it is safe for them to share their voice and interact with godly women. Many women come to Christ through the Ark ministry because an atmosphere of peace, acceptance, and purpose is a perfect place for the Lord to touch hearts forever.

About the project:

Healthy families have become the exception rather than the norm in Romania. A mother is often the only positive role model in the home because of the high proportion of fathers who are either emotionally disengaged or struggling with an addiction.

Healthy families have become the exception rather than the norm in Romania. A mother is often the only positive role model in the home because of the high proportion of fathers who are either emotionally disengaged or struggling with an addiction. This reality leads to many young mothers who are overwhelmed by carrying the burden for the whole family.

Through the Playgroups program, International Needs provides an atmosphere where mothers can bring their children for a hands-on opportunity to communicate, learn, and relate in a Christian atmosphere. Moms can interact with each other in supportive ways while their kids play. These new friendships are vital in strengthening families and lessening the feelings of isolation that many young mothers have.

How do you share Jesus Christ in a country where you are lucky to find one evangelical Christian in a room of a thousand people? You start by listening to young people. What hurts them? Who loves them? What do they dream about?

[description] =>

Youth workers in the Czech Republic do a lot of listening to young hearts in pain. They have earned the trust of the public schools and spend a lot of their time teaching in classrooms and speaking directly to young people who have no background in the church.

If you think these are easy conversations, think again! In the classroom, youth workers focus on themes of sexuality, self-esteem, and relationships, subjects that are heavy on the minds of Czech youth. These teaching opportunities give youth workers natural opportunities to invite young people to group  activities outside the school.

Students are affirmed by youth workers who actually want to hear what they have to say. Teens are given the opportunity to respond to the salvation message and the foundation of trust makes them listen. This program is transforming many young lives in a country where spiritual apathy and atheism is shockingly prevalent. Your gift toward the Healthy Youth program supports the youth workers who are having these difficult conversations. Please, please pray for these youth workers - they encounter many broken hearts and shattered lives.

When you first visit the Kibera slum in Kenya, you are stunned. The slum, well-known as the second largest slum in the world, is crowded with people living in appalling situations because they have no other options. They have no money, no resources, no family. Food is scarce and trash is piled high. Disease is rampant. While several small schools exist in the slum, they are run by compassionate individuals who have a huge heart, but no funding. Most children do not attend school.

[description] =>

Every Saturday, International Needs provides a free children's program open to any child who wants to attend. What draws the children to the Saturday program? They get food to eat, where they probably wouldn't get any at home. They are loved. They get to play games and be kids. They are safe. Your gift to the Saturday Children's Program in Kibera means that kids get to go to a place where they are welcome.

More than 99% of Turkey's population is Muslim. Christian children struggle in school and in their neighborhoods. Too often they experience rejection and even physical persecution.

International Needs has developed a vibrant children's ministry to provide a place for these children to thrive. Using the Christian calendar and making use of summer vacations, International Needs invites children to camps and celebrations at Christmas and Easter. Christian celebrations are discouraged in Turkey, but they are important to help affirm the children in their faith. Serving in Turkey is a privilege that is not without its dangers. There are so few Christians in Turkey, so your gift to the children's ministry helps encourage and support families in their ministry by providing a place for their children to feel "normal."

Having an animal like a cow, pig, or chicken can mean the difference between barely surviving and thriving in Uganda.

[description] =>

The Animal Project is a way to impact sponsored children and their families in a sustainable way.

Here's how it works: a family goes through a six-week training program and prepare to be owners by planting grass and building a small shelter. The animal is inoculated and dewormed so it will stay healthy.

When the family receives the animal, for example a cow, they use the milk to feed the family and the manure to improve their crops. If there is more milk than the family can use, they sell it for income to provide for their other needs. The first of the animal offspring is given back to the Animal Project to help another family. Further offspring belongs to the family to share or sell.

The Animal Project at the International Needs Buikwe school was so successful at providing hope to families that International Needs is expanding the project to help families at the other schools with a first sustainable step out of poverty.

Your gift to the Animal Project helps reach more families with the hope that a cow, pig, or chicken can bring. Will you help us?

"If a son is born to us, we will celebrate with mutton curry, but if a daughter is born then we will have only pumpkin curry." This Nepali saying reflects the fact that many little girls in India and Nepal are not valued and are sometimes abandoned to a life of neglect and abuse.

Prasanna and Arpana Khaling are a married couple who formed the Sano Diyo (A Little Lighthouse) home in 2002 for just this reason. The Khalings are passionate about following God's call to rescue little girls who are neglected, abused, or at risk of being sold into prostitution. These beautiful children arrive at Sano Diyo to find a father and mother in Prasanna and Arpana, who provide a loving home for them.

Sano Diyo is a place of healing. Faces of sadness and fear gradually become faces of happiness and love as these girls learn what it is to be a valued member of a family. The great success story of Sano Diyo? These abandoned little girls grow into cheerful, confident, disciplined young women who, most importantly of all, love Jesus.

When you support the Sano Diyo project, you are part of a vital movement to save children from unimaginable lives.

[description] =>

The Comenius Center in Rackova Dolina is a place where lives are changed. The building was constructed 70 years ago by Slovak Christian believers. Shorty after it was completed, it was confiscated by the Communist regime, and they used it as a youth hostel for the next 40 years. The building was neglected and when it was returned to the church in 1993, it was severely rundown and almost unusable. Fortunately, International Needs staff in Slovakia had great vision of what it could become.

International Needs has been working for many years to restore the beautiful building as a Christian retreat center. Only one of the four floors still needs to be completed. This uncompleted floor is vital to the Comenius Center's success as a retreat center, because it includes meeting rooms, bathrooms, six guest rooms, and important storage areas.

A dedicated construction team will travel to Slovakia in early 2015 to help complete the final floor. We need your help to raise $100,000 by August 2014 in order to fund this final restoration phase. Will you help us?

Gypsies are the largest minority group in Europe, and their population is growing three times faster in Slovakia than the general population of the country. Most Gypsies live in severe poverty with a high rate of unemployment, alcoholism, and gambling. They feel isolated, desperate, and forgotten.

The International Needs Cinobana Gypsy ministry has grown primarily through personal evangelism, with the gospel spreading most effectively among teens and young adults. The first few believers have started a groundswell of interest in the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Your support for the Cinobana Gypsy ministry allows them to reach more Gypsy people who feel isolated, with no hope. Will you help us reach out to them?

Changing this message deep within an abused woman's heart is at the core of gender empowerment programs in Ghana. Once she truly believes she matters, a woman transforms the tools International Needs provides into a new life. She is brave. She is powerful. She is unstoppable.

Your support of gender empowerment programs like vocational training sparks a fire that will change a woman forever. Please help us support women in difficult situations as they make new lives for themselves and their children.

When you live in poverty in rural Ghana, if you want a Bible, you probably can't get one.

[description] =>

A family in this situation has between $18 to $21 a week to live on and a Bible costs about $25. Parents simply don't have the money to buy a Bible, even for the whole family to share.

We need your help to change all that.

We want every child and teacher in our Ghana schools to have a Bible. But we're not stopping there: we want every child to know what the Bible means! We want them to be able to participate in Bible clubs, with kid-friendly curriculum that will help them grow closer to Jesus.

But we need your help to make this happen! We still need $50,000 (of a total of $150,000) to provide Bibles for 6,000 kids and teachers. This amount includes a program to teach what the Bible is all about in a way that kids can easily understand. Please, will you join us by donating $50, $100, $250, or even $1,000? Any amount is needed and welcome! Your donation is a critical part of reaching every single child.

We also have an exciting announcement! Every gift given for One Kid, One Bible will be matched, dollar for dollar, up to $20,000. That means your gift will have twice the impact toward the $50,000 we have left to raise! Donate today to have double the impact!

The Prison Ministry has been gradually developing through the sacrificial service of International Needs church planter wives on a volunteer basis. Funding has been dependent on what could be scraped together from individuals and churches in Romania. Most of the women in prison are victims of poverty and have been abused by their fathers and their husbands. Many are from orphanages. Some lived on the streets and were only able to survive through prostitution and crime. The ministry is designed to feature educational, psychological, social, and biblical teaching.

While this ministry started through a grassroots effort, it has grown quickly and the need is very great. The doors are wide open to reach more imprisoned women once supporters are in place.

Ark activities provide a place for women to belong, where it is safe for them to share their voice and interact with godly women. Many women come to Christ through the Ark ministry because an atmosphere of peace, acceptance, and purpose is a perfect place for the Lord to touch hearts forever.
