Ghana, West Africa Vision Tours for January 2009

Dear friends,

I am excited to share this information with you regarding the vision tour to Ghana, West Afrcia in January of 2009. You will have the rare opportunity of seeing the work that God is doing through Walter Pimpong and his staff to free the Trokosi slaves in the remote villages of Ghana. You will also experience first-hand the joy of women who have been freed from the Trokosi practice as you interact with them at the I. N. Network Vocational Training Center in Adidome.

We will travel through the bush to visit some villages, visit an I. N. Network school where the children are receiving a Christian education, worship with former Trokosi slaves in the chapel at Adidome, and we may even have a few surprises for you.

Because of popular demand, we have scheduled two weeks of identical vision tours. We will fill the week of January 11 - 20 first. When that week is full, and if there is enough interest, we will book the week of January 18 - 27. Below, you will find links to important information about this tour, including:

Descriptive Ghana Vision Tours tour flyer
Ghana Vision Tours application
Travel visa application
Information on preparing for your trip to Ghana
Immunization requirements and suggestions
Sample fundraising letter which has worked well for past team members
Instructions for using the fundraising letter
Return envelope that can be printed and sent with fundraising letter
Response cards for fundraising letters
"Forgotten: Esther's Story" which can be printed and sent with fundraising letter

I would encourage you to prayerfully consider whether God has called you to experience some of what he is doing in Ghana and for you to join Him in His work there.

We expect both weeks to fill quickly, so you would be helpful for you to call our office and speak to Margit (1-800-738-2912) so she knows that you are planning to send in your application and deposit for this trip. Margit will then put your name on a list and will be looking for your application. We will accept the applications on a first come - first served basis.

As always, please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions you may have. I can be reached at 1-800-738-2912 during regular business hours.

I hope to have the privilege of serving with you in Ghana!

Be blessed,

Teri Van Hekken

Pimpong Family Attacked by Armed Robbers

August 1, 2008

Dear Friends of Walter and Marian,

Like you, I am shocked by the news of the terrible events (see below) that occurred during the invasion and armed robbery in Walter and Marian’s home.  The Lord certainly protected them from a much more serious and potentially deadly outcome for which we praise the Lord and breathe a sigh of relief.

I have had a number of conversations with Walter since the incident and Walter is making good progress overcoming the physical trauma he experienced at the hands of the robbers.  However, the more difficult struggle is the emotional wounds--the very real pain of coping with the re-occurring fears and anxiety these situations leave in their wake.  It is hard for Walter and Marian to sleep at night and they fear for their children.  Any little sound triggers a cascade of memories that bring flashbacks of that life threatening event.  I would urge you to focus your prayers for Walter and Marian on their emotional healing as these wounds will take much longer to heal.

Of utmost importance is the need to protect them physically by repairing the damage to their home and improving the security around their property (this will also assist in the emotional healing process for them).  Over the years, Walter and I have had conversations about his safety as he dealt with the projects out in the Volta region, but Walter has very rarely discussed personal needs surrounding security of his home in Accra.  I have asked Walter to give me a cost to repair the damage and bring the security features to the level required to protect his family.

The wall around their home needs major renovation on two sides and heightened on the other two sides.  Once that is completed, razor wire needs to be secured to the top of the wall.  Three entry doors in their house need to be replaced and the framing repaired.  They are also going to change them from wood to metal.  In addition there is a small building on the property where some of the children sleep that has several doors that need to be replaced to meet security concerns.

There was a laptop and cell phones that were stolen that need to be replaced.  Walter has secured estimates at $13,500 to $14,000.

Unfortunately, because of the crime rate in Accra, having homeowners insurance is out of reach for most people, including Walter.  Would you consider sending a special gift that Walter can use to take the prudent steps necessary to protect his wife and family?  Your gift will also assist in their healing process as restoring a sense of security will go a long way in helping to overcome the fears they are experiencing.

Please continue to check our website for updates from Walter.  Whatever you can do will be deeply appreciated and your continuing prayers are critical.  God Bless you.

In His Service,

LaDoyt “Rody” Rodeheaver
President/CEO, I. N. Network USA

A gift of $250 helps to replace Walter Pimpong's cell phone and laptop.

A gift of $500 help to address Pimpong home security issues like doors, framing, and fence height.

While the above amounts are suggestions, any amount will help the Pimpong family.

If you can help with the Pimpong family's need, please go to the "Donate" page and choose "Ghana Pimpong Family Robbery Emergency Fund" as your gift designation.
