When you look around La Playa, you see the many faces of poverty. Children play barefoot in garbage and broken glass. Mothers have a desperate look in their eyes, not knowing how they will feed their children. Home is one room with a dirt floor.

The people who live here are displaced from other areas of Colombia. They have a deep longing in their hearts for "home," a place where their children are safe and protected.

They feel forgotten. They feel alone.

These children need a hand of mercy...

Martha Villamizar from Colombia knows true need. She sees children each day who are desperate for help.

They are barefoot and hungry.

Their fathers have abandoned them.

Their mothers are struggling to provide in an area where there are no jobs.

Children beg Martha for help because she is their only hope. These children need a hand of mercy to lift them from the cycle of poverty, and Martha knows her calling is to provide that hand.

Each country where we work has its own story of stuggle and desperation, and we in the USA get only a picture of the difficult choices Martha makes each day. We are called to provide a compassionate hand. When the money is gone, how do we look a child in the eye and say we cannot help?

The ministry in Colombia has been hit hard by the economic struggles both in-country and in supporting countries like the USA. Martha strives to keep the school open so children who have nothing can continue to get an education, meals, basic health care, and Christian teaching.

There are two vital ways that you can help.
