Young girls trapped in Trokosi slavery are set free from a life of abuse and domination.
Reverend Thomas Lumba was born in Zambia in 1950 in a large African family. He accepted Jesus as his personal Savior at the age of seventeen in a small church where his father was the pastor. Although the Lumba family was very poor Thomas’s parents made it a priority to educate their children. After completing his secondary school courses, Thomas started to work in the banking field and was a financial accountant in the copper mining industry when he met his wife, Joyce. They were married in 1972. They felt God calling them into full-time ministry and Thomas enrolled in the Baptist Theological Seminary in Zambia. After he graduated, he became pastor of Bethel Baptist Church in a town near the capital city of Lusaka.
After some valuable pastoring experience, Thomas had an opportunity to continue his theological training at the International Seminary in Zurich, Switzerland. Upon completing his degree in Zurich, he returned to his pastoral position in Zambia, where he was appointed the Executive Director of the Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia, which allowed him to work with evangelical churches and para-church organizations throughout his country. During his years as Executive Director, he also served as counselor to the former president of Zambia.
One of the ministries with which Thomas became involved was the I.N. Network. As he became aware of its focus on evangelism through nationals his interest grew. He became a member of the I.N. Network Zambia Board of Directors and later became its chairman. In April, 2001, Thomas stepped down from his position with the Evangelical Fellowship to accept the appointment as Executive Director of I.N. Network Zambia. Thomas and Joyce head the “FamCare” ministry, which is based in Ndola, Zambia. FamCare is a ministry to married couples, pastors and their wives, and many congregations throughout Zambia. The teaching stresses Biblical principles of marriage, as well as HIV/AIDS awareness.
